MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Two French commandos were injured in Iraq while investigating a drone allegedly sent in by a Daesh affiliate that turned out to be booby-trapped, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.
"Yes, this was indicated…the drone was stationary and exploded. Two were injured," Stephane Le Foll confirmed at a press briefing, as quoted by the French news magazine, Geotribune.
Local media reported late Tuesday that two French service members of Task Force Hydra were injured and two Kurdish Peshmerga fighters were killed by the exploding drone.
France has special operations forces working with Iraq’s Kurdish militias in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, as they prepare for an offensive against the northern Daesh stronghold of Mosul.
