MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia remains committed to fight against cyberterrorism, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday, adding that Moscow views US President Barack Obama's pledges to respond to alleged attacks by Russian hackers negatively.
"Russia was, is and will always be committed to the necessity of fight against cyberterrorism, hacking attacks. Russia is advocating international cooperation, including with the United States, in this sphere," Peskov told reporters.
"Regarding these so far unfounded allegations accusing Moscow of being involved in such crimes, we view them as absurd," Peskov said.
Last week, the US Department of Homeland Security and Office of the Director of National Intelligence said investigators were confident that Russia directed cyberattacks against US institutions and political organizations in a bid to influence the November 8 presidential election. On Tuesday, the White House pledged to prepare a "proportional" response for Russia's alleged hacking into the Democratic National Committee.
Earlier in the day, Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergei Kislyak said that Russia was not interfering with US internal affairs, and Washington, in turn, had not provided Russia with any evidence regarding the voiced allegation of alleged cyberattacks.
