NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The Russian Consulate in New York City expects response from US authorities within the next three days regarding the Russian woman detained earlier in the week on larceny charges, Consulate's spokesperson told Sputnik on Wednesday.
"We have not heard anything definite from the US side so far," the spokesperson said. "The consulate expects a response within the next three days, at the latest."
Svetlana Zakharova, 26, was arrested in New York on Monday night and charged with money extortion, local media reported.
Zakharova was involved in scandal with former New York governor Eliot Spitzer earlier this year, when she claimed that the governor assaulted her in the Plaza hotel.
Trial on Zakharova's case began in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday.
