MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, US targeted radar sites in Yemen in response to what Pentagon referred to as alleged missile attacks on the US guided-missile destroyer Mason from the Houthi-controlled southern Yemen territories. The Houthis have denied the involvement in the attacks.
"Direct American attack and targeting of Yemeni soil this morning is unacceptable and any developments will be dealt with accordingly," Houthis' military spokesman Brig. Gen. Sharaf Luqman Haq said, as quoted by the Yemeni News Agency Saba.
Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government and the Houthi rebels, the country’s main opposition force. The Houthis are backed by army units loyal to the former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
