DUBAI (Sputnik) — Tehran has been repeatedly criticized by some Gulf states, supporting the so-called Syrian moderate opposition, for its backing of Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting multiple militant factions and extremist groups since 2011.
"Iran should play a positive role in the region, without resorting to confessional chauvinism and should not interfere in the affairs of other states," he said at a press conference in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh.
He also stressed the necessity to fight against all types of terrorism worldwide.
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in his turn said that in order to normalize relations with Riyadh, Iran must comply with the rules of neighborhood and refrain from supporting Shia communities in Arab countries.
