WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The sale includes six short-range radars, one long-range system with primary and secondary surveillance radar arrays, upgrades to existing systems, friend-or-foe identification and related support, according to the release.
"The State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Kuwait for radar field systems and related equipment, training, and support," the release on Thursday stated. "The estimated cost is $194 million."
The main contractor will be determined by competition between defense giants Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon, the defense agency said.
The radar systems provide situational awareness for security forces in Kuwait to detect and interdict fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft along the country’s borders.
