BBC Breakfast show presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt were discussing the SNP leader's statements on the second independence referendum.
As they introduced Mrs. Sturgeon, footage appeared of a seven-foot gorilla Kumbuka that had escaped from the London Zoo on October 13.
Nicola Sturgeon met with her party members for the official SNP conference on October 13 and discussed various subjects, outlining the party's mandate for the coming year.
The BBC had decided to run a news clip of the conference and one of the hosts said:
"We're going to be joined by the Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, we'll talk to her about plans for a second referendum on independence."
At that moment a picture of the escaped gorilla appeared on the screen — Kumbuka, was sitting in a field eating grass.
When the two presenters returned to the screen, Stayt immediately apologized for the mix up. However some Twitter users were unsure if it was a mistake or done on purpose.
Mistake, or deliberate. You decide! @NicolaSturgeon @BBCBreakfast pic.twitter.com/ntoOiasIQ6

Others called out the BBC and asked the SNP leader if she was prepared to take this blatant disrespect.
You going to take that @NicolaSturgeon?! pic.twitter.com/ng2L0um0PL

Others found it simply the funniest thing they had seen on TV.
Oh my days. @bbcbreakfast just ran a video of a gorilla whilst trailing Nicola Sturgeon's interview. Naga's face. I'm dying. #bbcbreakfast pic.twitter.com/onG5lFJ8Qt
