US to Take Further Self-Defense Measures Against Houthis in Yemen - Obama
The United States will take further action to address any future threats coming from anti-government rebels in Yemen, US President Barack Obama said in a report to Congress on Friday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the Pentagon said US forces struck three radar sites in Houthi-controlled territory on Yemen's Red Sea coast in response to missile launches that threatened Navy ships in international waters.
14 October 2016, 19:57 GMT
"The United States stands ready to take action in self-defense, as necessary and appropriate, to address further threats," Obama wrote to the speaker of the House and the president pro tempore of the Senate.
Obama explained that he directed the strikes on radar facilities that were involved in the October 9 and October 12 launches against the USS Mason.
Earlier on Friday, senior administration officials said the Houthis were responsible for the missile launches.
Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between forces loyal to the government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi rebels.
