MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia’s relations with Ukraine and the West deteriorated sharply after Crimea rejoined Russia in 2014 and the West accused Moscow of meddling in the conflict in eastern Ukraine, imposing several rounds of sanctions on Russia.
"On September 16, 2015 by the decree of [Ukrainian] President [Petro] Poroshenko [anti-Russia] sanctions were introduced for a period of one year. On September 16, 2016 the sanctions expired. And for already a month there has been no decree from Poroshenko on the resumption of sanctions," Leshchenko wrote on Facebook.
The European Union's main economic sanctions against Moscow are in place until January 31, 2017, and sanctions against some Russian citizens and legal entities are valid until March 15 of the same year.
