MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Members of the defense and security committee of the upper house of the Russian parliament visited airbase in Hmeimim and Navy base in Tartus in Syria, its press service said in a press release on Saturday.
"Senators met with the commander of Russian troops in Syria, Col. Gen. Alexander Dvornikov, visited the logistics center of the Russian Navy in Tartus, a Russian military hospital, the Russian center for Syrian reconciliation," the press release read.
Committee members assessed the state of Hmeimim base, its equipment and the living conditions of military personnel. They noted that the technical equipment of the air base met all modern requirements, while the hospital had all the necessary medicines and qualified personnel.
On October 7, Russia's lower house of parliament ratified an agreement with Syria that authorizes the deployment of a Russian air group at the Hmeimim airbase for an indefinite period of time.
