"We consider it necessary for BRICS to strengthen cooperation in the health sector in order to exchange experience in preventing and halting the spread of such dangerous infectious diseases as Ebola in Africa and the risks associated with the Zika virus in some Latin American states," Putin said at the BRICS leaders’ meeting in an extended format within the framework of the eighth BRICS summit in Goa, stressing that Russia was ready for close cooperation with the BRICS partners.
Moreover, Putin invited representatives of the BRICS states to attend the high-level global conference on tuberculosis. The conference, which will be held in Moscow in November 2017, is expected to focus on measures to fight Ebola, Zika and other diseases.
The eighth annual BRICS event is taking place this weekend in India’s Goa and is attended by all five leaders, namely of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, who were set to discuss a plan for cooperation in the near future as well as a wide range of political, economic and security issues.
