LONDON (Sputnik) – The Russian embassy in London has made an official inquiry with the UK Foreign Office 10 days ago regarding evidence which would support Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson’s claims regarding Russia intentionally carrying out attacks on civilians in Syria, the country said it had no such evidence, Russia's Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko said Monday.
"Ten days ago, the Russian embassy has officially inquired with the Foreign Office information on evidence supporting statements made by Boris Johnson. Otherwise, we shall consider these statements blatant lies which aim to ensure security of the Nusra [Front] and, possibly, UK servicemen who are in Syria. The essence of the response that we received comes down to the UK side not having such evidence," the ambassador said in an open letter.
he Russian military has made a request regarding the regions in Syria where the UK special forces are active in order to avoid casualties, but received no response, according to Yakovenko.
"I shall add that our military also made a request regarding the scenes of action of the UK special forces in Syria to avoid possible casualties among them as a result of actions of the Russian Aerospace Forces. We received silence as an answer to this," Yakovenko said in an open letter to UK lawmakers.
