BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Belgian Judicial Police conducted 15 house searches early on Tuesday and detained 15 people for questioning as part of an inquiry into suspected terrorism activities, the Belgian Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office said.
"In all, 15 persons have been taken in for questioning, 4 of them being brought before the Investigating Judge," the prosecutors said in a statement.
"Those persons have been indicted because of participation in the activities of a terrorist group, amongst others its funding. Some of them are suspected of recruiting people with a view to departing to Syria and joining IS there," the statement said.
According to the document, the house searches took place in Ghent, Deinze and Antwerp, but "no arms or explosives have been found."
"At present no links could be established with the inquiries into the attacks of 22 March 2016 on Brussels Airport (Zaventem) and metro station Maalbeek (Brussels)," the prosecutors stressed.
