PARIS (Sputnik) — Iraq's military campaign to capture the city of Mosul from the Daesh terrorist group that entered its second day could extend into several weeks, French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Tuesday.
"This will be a long battle, it will last at least several weeks," Le Drian said in remarks broadcast by BFMTV.
Le Drian said US-led coalition forces and France are assisting the Iraqi troops in the offensive.
