"Belgium deeply regrets that no prior consultation has taken place with a view to establishing the facts, before accusations were made in public. This method begs for the wider question as to the motives behind these false accusations towards Belgium and the International Coalition against ISIS," the ministry said in a statement.
It denied any Belgian Air Force aircraft have been operating over the Aleppo province in the last few days.
"These accusations are therefore totally groundless and unsubstantiated," the ministry stressed adding that both Minister of Foreign Affairs Didier Reynders and Minister of Defense Steven Vandeput strongly deny the accusations of possible involvement of national F-16 jets in the airstrike.
The statement also noted that a series of verifications are always made before any mission of the US-led coalition is carried out, so that all possible collateral damage to civilians is avoided.
Russian Defense Ministry’s spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said on Wednesday that targeting mistakes by the member countries of the US-led coalition, including Belgium, occur on a regular basis, while Russia has effective air defense means, which ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the air situation practically over all the territory of Syria and beyond.
