According to the Turkish press, the incident occurred in the city of Çukurova when a local citizen called the police and reported that there was a man wearing a burqa in a beauty salon in the Güzelyalı quarter.

According to the citizen the man could have been hiding weapons underneath.

Police arrived shortly, but the man in a burqa was no longer there. After going through records from over 200 CCTV cameras, the police managed to identify and detain a 22-year-old man.

During the interrogation, the young man confessed to coming to the parlor wearing a burqa, but he did so in order to meet his fiancée to whom he was engaged and whose father would not allow them to meet before marriage.

“My fiancée works in the women's hairdressing salon. We could not see each other on the street, because it was forbidden for us. Men are not allowed inside this salon. Therefore, in order to see my bride, I went to the parlor pretending to be a woman,” the detainee said.

He further said that he agreed to come and visit his fiancée in a burqa because he loves her. The young man stressed that he has no links to terrorism what so ever.

After his testimony, the police allowed the young “Romeo” to go free.
