The humanitarian pause in Syria's embattled city of Aleppo is a good sign, however, it needs to be extended, US State Department spokesperson John Kirby told reporters on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced that Moscow had decided to extend the humanitarian pause in Aleppo for another 24 hours.

“Last few hours – a good sign, but it needs to be deeper and broader and needs to last longer period of time,” Kirby said. “Obviously, we would like to see it persist, sustain itself, and be renewed.”
