"The European Council calls for…further progress on the full range of commitments vis-à-vis all Member States contained in the EU-Turkey statement, including as regards visa liberalisation. Co-legislators are invited to reach agreement within the next few weeks on the revision of the suspension mechanism applied to visas," the press release on the European Council conclusions on migration published Thursday said.
Brussels and Ankara struck a deal in March, with Turkey vowing to take back all undocumented migrants who arrive in the European Union through its territory amid the massive refugee crisis in exchange for Syrian refugees accommodated in Turkey, on a one-for-one basis. The European Union pledged to accelerate the Turkish EU accession and introduce visa-free regime.
