MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The combat readiness check of Russia's Eastern Military District's troops started on the Kuril Islands, the district's spokesman Alexander Gordeev said Friday.
"The commission of the Eastern Military District's headquarters has started the check of the district's troops deployed to the Kuril Islands. The start of the 2016 check was marked by signals bringing the Kuril Islands servicemen to high combat readiness," Gordeev said.
According to the spokesman, the servicemen will take individual firing and tactical tests.
Gordeev added that exercises conducted during the 2016 checks would see troops practicing firing at sea targets with the use of the Grad multiple rocket launchers and Orlan-10 drones.
