MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian and Syrian governments agreed to stop airstrikes on Islamist fighters controlling parts of the city starting Thursday. The humanitarian pause was later extended into Friday afternoon.
"The situation in Aleppo is obviously very very fluid. It changes constantly… Once we are sure that security conditions are in place, we will be proceeding accordingly," David Swanson said.
"Unfortunately medical evacuation of sick and injured people in east Aleppo did not commence as planned this morning. Unfortunately the necessary conditions were not in place to secure safe, secure, voluntary evacuations of the severely wounded and their families," Swanson admitted, adding that the UN has a detailed four-day operation plan it is ready to implement as soon as possible.
