Two US Assault Ships Deployed in Mediterranean to Back Libya in Daesh Battle
16:07 GMT 21.10.2016 (Updated: 16:24 GMT 21.10.2016) Two warships in the United States’ Wasp Amphibious Ready Group have been stationed off the Mediterranean port of Sirte to back Libyan government efforts to retake the city from Daesh terrorists, the US Navy announced in a press release Friday.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The release described the deployment of the USS Wasp and USS San Antonio as replacements for other vessels being rotated out of the area.
"Sailors and Marines will continue the mission of providing support to Government of National Accord-aligned forces fighting to retake Sirte from the grasp of Daesh," the release explained.
