MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's partners on Syria sabotage the UN Security Council's decisions on the start of a political process in the Arab republic, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.
"In Syria, our partners are abandoning this approach [to pursue national reconciliation instead of suppressing one side] by deliberately blocking, braking, sabotaging UN Security Council decisions on the immediate start of intra-Syrian dialogue without preconditions," Lavrov said at a briefing.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Assad fighting numerous opposition groups and terrorist organizations such as Daesh and al-Nusra Front.
Since the war's beginning it has claimed lives of thousands of people and displaced millions more. The international community has undertaken steps to end the Syrian conflict and to solve the humanitarian crisis in the Middle Eastern country.
