"I argued along with [German] Chancellor Merkel, [French] President Hollande and others for… the united message calling on the Syrian regime and Russia to stop their attack on Aleppo… The EU will consider all options [on Syria] if the atrocities continue. And that is what we have agreed," May said at a press conference on the sidelines of the European Council summit in Brussels.
Aleppo has seen intensified fighting after the Syrian army declared an end to the week-long ceasefire on September 23, as it blamed militants for numerous violations that made the cessation of hostilities unreasonable.
A humanitarian pause in Russian and Syrian airstrikes on terrorist positions came into force in Aleppo early on Thursday. Civilians were encouraged to leave the war zone through six corridors, while two others were reserved for militants willing to lay down their arms.
