The initiative to grant government support to unaccompanied children refugees arriving to the UK was promoted by Lord Dubs, the Labour peer and former child refugee.
According to the newspaper, only those children refugees who have relatives in the United Kingdom entered the country. Since Monday, the United Kingdom has been accepting minors from the Calais Camp to reunite with their relatives.
Thousands of migrants from the Middle East and North Africa are living in the Calais camp, – the so-called Jungle – notorious for its horrible living conditions, located not far from the Channel Tunnel, in hopes of reaching the United Kingdom. The remaining part of the camp is to be closed before the end of October, after the main section was dismantled in March. The demolition set to begin on October 24.
