The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry stated that Baku seeks to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with Armenia in accordance with the international law.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Baku supports settlement of the conflict in the Narorno-Karabakh region in line with the international law, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Saturday.

“The Azerbaijani side speaks for the conflict settlement in accordance with international norms and principles. Disinformation about the situation on the front line, distributed by the other side, appears because of political and military tensions in Armenia and is aimed at hindering the negotiating process, and at preparing ground for further provocations,” the ministry said.

Azerbaijan's Aliyev Ready to Meet Armenia's Sargsyan to Aid Karabakh Settlement
Earlier, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has expressed readiness of the Armenian side to make steps toward peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Azerbaijan's Armenian-dominated breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh proclaimed its independence in 1991. After the military conflict ended in 1994, Azerbaijan lost control over the region. Violence erupted in Nagorno-Karabakh on April 2, 2016 and led to multiple casualties. The parties to the conflict signed a Russian-brokered ceasefire on April 5, but mutual accusations have not stopped so far.
