MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The team of a reporter, a photographer and a cameraman was following a military convoy when the militants started shelling them, Anadolu news agency reported.
“We found ourselves in the middle of a conflict. We took shelter behind the vehicles and could hear the bullets hit the walls around us, ” the photographer Yunus Keles was quoted as saying by the Anadolu news agency.
The journalists were not injured, but their car was damaged so that they had to call on local security forces for assistance.
Kirkuk lies some 108 miles away from Mosul, considered to be the terror group’s main stronghold in Iraq. The Iraqi government announced an operation to retake Mosul from Daesh, which is outlawed in many countries, on Monday and has been making rapid gains on several fronts since then.
