Several media websites in Belgium were attacked by hackers, calling themselves the Syrian Cyber Army, in response to a lack of coverage of Belgium's alleged involvement in airstrikes near Aleppo, local media reported on Monday.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The media outlets subjected to the attack included newspapers De Standaard, Het Nieuwsblad, and Gazet Van Antwerpen, as well as RTBF television and radio, the Belga agency reported.

According to the Gazet Van Antwerpen, the hackers explained their actions as a sign of discontent with Belgian media for hiding from the public the actions of the country's Air Force.

On October 18, an airstrike was carried out in the Syrian village Hassadijk in the province of Aleppo. The strike killed six people, injured four others, and two houses were destroyed. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, two F-16 fighter jets of the Belgian Air Force were registered in the area at the moment of an airstrike. The Belgian Defense Ministry, however, has denied claims of involvement in the strikes on Hassadijk.
