MOSCOW(Sputnik) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov pointed out to US State Secretary John Kerry that militants occupying eastern Aleppo opened fire on civilians trying to leave the region in response to a humanitarian pause announced by the Syrian authorities, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Monday.
According to the ministry, Lavrov and Kerry spoke earlier Monday on the initiative of the US side.
“Sergey Lavrov pointed out that illegal armed formations holding the eastern part of Aleppo responded to the introduction by the Syrian authorities of the humanitarian pause by opening fire on civilians trying to leave the city and new attacks,” the statement read.
