Sputnik photojournalist Vladimir Pesnya, the winner of the World Press Photo 2016, will be the ‘eyes’ of the official Instagram account of the famous international photo contest World Press Photo for one week.

MOSCOW, October 24, Sputnik Press-Office — Until October 30, Vladimir Pesnya will introduce his society and sport-related photo works on the World Press Photo Instagram account. The author will show the life of the Russian province through ordinary people such as  members of an amateur hockey team in Vetluga (awarded series at the World Press Photo 2016) or children waiting for foster parents at the orphanages in Moscow, Chelyabinsk and Irkutsk. Photo works by Vladimir Pesnya will be also available on the Sputnik Instagram account.

“During the week, I have the keys to the World Press Photo account on Instagram. I want to acquaint subscribers with old and new photos, and show them how I see the world. The first photos represent the charity campaign ‘Train of Hope’ in the Irkutsk region,” Sputnik photojournalist Vladimir Pesnya said.

In February 2016 Vladimir Pesnya won first place in one of the most prestigious competitions of the world, World Press Photo 2016, with a series of photos entitled “Hockey in Vetluga” which won in the Sports category. It represents amateur players from Vetluga and neighboring villages during hockey games.

World Press Photo is the most prestigious annual review of international photojournalism, which largely determines the standards of the profession. To get the World Press Photo award for photographers is the same as to get an Oscar for actors. Over 5,000 photographers from 128 countries competed for the award in 2016 and the total number of applications exceeded 82 000. The jury announced the 48 winners of the competition on February 18 2016.
