WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Friday, AT&T announced plans to acquire Time Warner for $84.5 billion. The merger would include Timer Warner’s popular brands HBO and CNN, and force other distributors to negotiate with AT&T for programming licenses.
"The White House doesn't take a position on the deal," a pool report quoted Earnest as saying on Monday.
The merger has to be approved by the Department of Justice’s antitrust division and other US federal regulators.
Earnest explained that Obama was not likely to comment on the deal because it is a regulatory decision.
Both Republicans and Democrats have expressed concerns about the proposal, citing fears it could encourage further corporate media consolidation and raise prices for US consumers.
