SOCHI (Sputnik) — During a a session of the Valdai Discussion Club in the Russian southwestern city of Sochi, Sanaei said:
"The regional order may be ensured only by regional players. Europe and America can not make decisions in the Middle East."
It is impossible to expect liberal-democratic regimes to settle down in the Middle East, because they "do not match the situation in the region," the ambassador added.
The Middle East has been plagued by instability for years with political crises in the countries often exacerbated by the emergence of terrorist groups. The West, mainly the United States, has often been criticized by the officials from the Middle Eastern countries for its excessive interference in regional affairs, in particular for the US-led invasion in Iraq in 2003.
