MOSCOW (Sputnik) Lithuania has provided 20,000 euros ($21,760) in humanitarian aid to victims of the ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine, the country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania allocated EUR 20,000 in humanitarian aid to Ukraine … Humanitarian assistance is still relevant in eastern Ukraine. The United Nations reports that 3.1 million people are in need of emergency aid, particularly health services, food, clean water, sanitation and shelter,” the ministry statement said.

It also noted that since the beginning of the conflict, Lithuania has already allocated more than 1.1 million euros to Ukraine.

In April 2014, Kiev launched a special military operation in Ukraine’s southeast, after local residents refused to recognize the new Ukrainian authorities, which came to power as a result of what many considered to be a coup. In February 2015, a peace agreement was signed between Ukraine’s conflicting sides in Minsk after marathon talks of the Normandy Four leaders, comprising Russia, Germany, Ukraine and France. Both sides of the conflict, however, are constantly accusing each other of violating the agreement.
