MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Iranian President Hassan Rouhani will run for a second presidential term during the elections next year, Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said on Tuesday.
"Yes, I confirm that President Rouhani will be a candidate in the next presidential election," Rahmani Fazli told the Fars News Agency.
The minister added that the candidates would officially launch their election campaigns on April 27-May 16, 2017.
Rouhani has been in office since 2013.
The next Iranian presidential elections are expected to be held on May 19. The same day, council elections will be held as well. It will be the first time both elections happen on the same day.
