MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia studies a recent report by the by the United Nations and Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) about the use of chemical weapons in Syria, and considers that more evidence is needed to prove Syrian government's involvement in the chemical attacks, including in Idlib province in 2015, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control said Tuesday.
"We are currently studying it… previous episodes prescribing Damascus involvement [in chemical attacks] are very badly argued and are not evidence-based… Regarding the new episode, we are analyzing it, and the first impression is that more convincing arguments, facts are needed," Mikhail Ulyanov told RIA Novosti.
On August 24, the OPCW released the results of a joint probe into chemical weapons attacks in Syria in 2014 and 2015 that said the Syrian government was allegedly involved in two and the Islamic State jihadist group (outlawed in Russia) in one attack.
