MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The idea of expanding Heathrow was first suggested by then-Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair a decade ago, as the country was running out of airport capacities in the south of England.
In July, the UK Airport Commission's final report backed a proposal for opening a third runway at Heathrow. The project to build a third runway at London's biggest airport is estimated to require 16 billion pounds ($21 billion), as well as the demolition of nearly 1,000 homes.
