WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The idea that North Korea will agree to denuclearize is not plausible, Office of the Director of National Intelligence head James Clapper said at the Council on Foreign Relations on Tuesday.
"The notion of getting the North Koreans to denuclearize is probably a lost cause. They are not going to do that. That is their ticket to survival," Clapper stated.
This month, North Korea has conducted two missile test-launches, and on September 9 it detonated a nuclear device at a national testing range.
South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said during a trip to Washington, DC last week his country and the United States will seek a new resolution in the UN Security Council to close existing loopholes and impose additional sanctions on North Korea.
