WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States welcomes the intention of Russia and Syria to extend the humanitarian pause in the city of Aleppo, US Department of State spokesperson John Kirby said in a briefing on Tuesday.
"We welcome the stated intention to extend this pause, and we hope that this extension will be more successful… than it has been thus far," Kirby told reporters.
The spokesperson noted that the United States continued to see violence in Aleppo despite the humanitarian pauses announced in the past.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called over the weekend on all the countries that could influence the militants in Aleppo to persuade them to allow access to the city to the international humanitarian missions.
Aleppo has become the scene of ferocious battles between the Syrian Army and the militants holding the city's eastern districts, with many international organizations voicing their concern for the safety of civilians trapped there.
