"In recent months, we can see that US diplomacy is controlled by internal political battles and its decisions are primarily motivated by the results of the upcoming election. The most obvious manifestation of this policy is the approach to the Syrian conflict. Hopefully after the election, the situation will change," Ivanov told RIA Novosti.
According to him, during the election campaign, everything is subordinate to winning the election. "Unfortunately, in the course of these campaigns long-term foreign policy interests are often sacrificed in favor of short-term domestic policy interests. That is what we are now witnessing in the United States," Ivanov added.
The United States presidential election will be held on November 8. The main contenders for the post of the new head of the American administration are Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton and Republican nominee Donald Trump.
