WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Protesters gathered outside Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s new hotel in Washington, DC on Wednesday amid its grand opening.
Members of the political advocacy group MoveOn.org and the Culinary Workers Union were among those calling for a public boycott of Trump International Hotel and other properties associated with Trump and his company, the Trump Organization.
Outside the downtown Washington hotel, only five blocks from the White House, demonstrators held posters reading "Immigrants and Muslims are welcome here — Trump hotel is not!" and "Refugees welcome”.
Throughout his campaign, Trump has been widely criticized for controversial statements including insults against immigrants, Latinos, Muslims and women.
