MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Kasoulides will discuss the relations between Russia and the European Union and a number of other issues with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to the ministerial statement.
"In the course of the negotiations, the ministers will discuss the priorities of the Cypriot chairmanship of the Council of Europe from November 22, 2016 to May 19, 2017. Lavrov and Kasoulides will discuss a wide range of bilateral and international issues, exchange views on the relations between Russia and the European Union, the Cypriot regulation, the situation in Syria and in the Middle East, and a number of other issues," the Russian ministry said.
According to the statement, the positions of Russia and Cyprus overlap in many issues, including the return to a constructive cooperation between Russia and the European Union, the strengthening of the central role of the United Nations in international relations as the universal institution for maintenance of peace and security.
