According to Sputnik Spain, Cabo joined the squad eight years ago. According to the official report of the Argentine Army, the “doggy” used to come to the patrol of San Antonio de los Cobres, stationed in the northern province of Salta, every day.
In the evenings, the owner of the dog used to come and pick Cabo up. However, one day the owner realized that the dog wanted to stay with the patrol squad.
It received its name, Cabo, from its new patrol friends and started patrolling the neighborhood together with the squad.
The video of the official ceremony was published on Facebook page of the Argentine Army. The dog received the rank of a sergeant keeping all the military formalities in place.
In his official speech, Colonel Juan Manuel Pulleiro stressed that in the course of his military service, Cabo went to the mountains over 60 times as “man's best friend.”
“In this regard, the commander ordered to note that Cabo is a pet of the patrol squad as it has all the qualities and valor of a mountain dog. Secondly, to assign the aforesaid dog the rank of sergeant,” Pulleiro announced.
The official army website noted that the ceremony was attended by “hundreds of men, who have repeatedly patrolled at a height of more than 5.5 km above sea level, accompanied by the four-legged companion.”
The ceremony ended with a march in which Cabo took part together with the soldiers.
