"The recent deployment of unarmed remotely piloted aircraft to Tunisia for reconnaissance purposes are operated in full coordination with the Government of Tunisia," Mack stated.
Earlier in the day, Tunisian Defense Ministry spokesman Belhassen Oueslati told Sputnik that the country did not allow Washington to use its military base army to operate drone missions against Daesh.
Mack noted that the United States and Tunisia have a “longstanding partnership” aimed at ensuring security and stability in the region.
“Within that context, we conduct a broad range of reconnaissance activities in close coordination with our partners,” she said.
On Wednesday, Pentagon official revealed to the Washington Post on condition of anonymity that the United States had been secretly using an army base in Tunisia to operate intelligence missions in Libya.
