WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The news comes amid the US-led coalition's joint operation with the Iraqi forces to retake Mosul from Daesh terrorists.
"US Embassy Baghdad has received reports of attempts to kidnap US citizen nongovernmental organization staff riding in vehicle convoys to provide aid to Mosul, Iraq," the warning stated. "Militants demanded to see passports for all travelers in convoys and searched specifically for US citizens."
According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the Mosul operation, backed by the US-led international coalition against Daesh.
