WASHINGTON (Sputnik), Olesya Manokhina — The main priority of the US government, Carlin explained, with less than two weeks left before election day, is to ensure systems are resilient to alleviate integrity concerns.
"It is extraordinary unlikely that the recent cyberattacks could affect the outcome of the [US] elections," Carlin said. "This is more an attempt to undermine people’s confidence than there is a realistic prospect of actually affecting the outcome."
Carlin claimed that US officials' continuing emphasis on alleged Russia's role in the most significant data breaches in the United States has not been inflated due to political reasons.
"Regardless of who the actor is, we are trying to explain what’s occurred, who did it, why they may have done it," Carlin said.
The US intelligence community, Carlin added, must have been highly confident in its assessments to release it publicly.
