According to the French Foreign Ministry, the objectives of the meeting will be to "mark the determination" of the states to act collectively in the face of the threats, primarily as a common front against the Daesh terrorist group, look for ways to resolve the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean Sea as well as to discuss regional crises in Syria and Iraq.
The ministers will also focus on the need to respond to the needs of young people, building a sustainable model of development and preparing for the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties on climate change (COP 22).

The format was initiated in Rome in 1990 to foster relations between the states, discuss subjects of interests in the region and identify areas for cooperation.
