The Army Air Forces of the Russian Federation mark their 68th anniversary on October 28, 2016.

On this day in 1948, the first Russian air squadron operating helicopters was established. The unit laid the foundation for the Army Air Forces as an independent branch of aviation performing a wide range of tasks, including fire support for troops from the air, search and rescue, landing of special forces, as well as a variety of specialized tasks.
