US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta called her then rival in the Democratic Party presidential nomination Bernie Sanders a "doofus" over his criticism of the Paris climate agreement, emails released by WikiLeaks showed on Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The information was revealed in a new batch of emails of Clinton's campaign chairman published by the whistleblowing website.

"Thanks Neera [Tanden]. Can you believe that doofus Bernie attacked it [the deal]?" the email by Podesta sent out to longtime Clinton ally Neera Tanden on December 13, 2015, read.

Sanders has previously criticized the deal over being not ambitious enough.

WikiLeaks published the first batch of Podesta's emails on October 8.
