WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — In Brussels, Sajjan attended a UK-led discussion on Ukraine with the United States, Poland and Lithuania and attended North Atlantic Council meetings with representatives from Albania, Latvia, Romania and France, the release said.
"During a three-day visit to Belgium and Latvia, Defence Minister Harjit S. Sajjan advanced Canada’s role as one of four NATO Framework Nations; each a key part of NATO’s strengthened deterrence and defense posture in Eastern and Central Europe," the release stated on Friday.
Sajjan attended the Riga Conference in Latvia, which focused on NATO's role in the current security environment.
Additionally, he met with Estonian Defence Minister Hannes Hanso and visited the Adazi military base where Canadian personnel will be deployed in 2017.
In June, Canada announced that Ottawa would establish a rotational NATO battlegroup to Latvia to enhance the bloc’s defense posture in Eastern and Central Europe.
