MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Thursday, Anthony Lake, the executive director of the UNICEF, said that the airstrike on the Idlib school resulted in the deaths of 22 children and six teachers.
"The Commission is horrified by the aerial assault reportedly launched by pro-Government forces in Haas village, Idlib, on 26 October in which three schools in a complex were struck… The Commission is undertaking a thorough investigation of the attack with a view to confirming the identity of those responsible," the Friday statement read.
Following the attack, US Department of State spokesperson John Kirby said that Washington had seen information that implicates Russia and Syria as being responsible for carrying out the attack. Russian Defense Ministry's spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said that the investigation showed that the photos and video frames of the alleged airstrike on the school, published by some media, were fabricated.
The independent international commission of inquiry brings together officials from different countries and seeks to investigate and record all violations of international law in the country under a mandate of the UN Human Rights Council.
