MOSCOW (Sputnik) — These flights are regularly carried out by the fighter jets of the NATO countries to fulfill the bloc's obligation to protect the airspace over the Baltic countries. On August 31, the Germans took over the mission from the UK pilots and their four combat aircraft of the same type.
"The German combat aircraft Eurofighter will take off from Amari air base to conduct flights during the working week. The aircraft will fly at the altitude of at least 152 meters (roughly 500 feet) preferably away from the residential areas," the Sunday press release of the Estonian General Staff said.
According to the agreements between the NATO members, these low altitude flights are conducted in specially reserved zones.
